Vancouver Island Wool Pellets

My name is Claire, a fifth generation farmer. My family and I run a century farm in the beautiful Comox Valley, on Vancouver Island. We produce healthy, sustainable food for our local and surrounding communities. We strive to keep our prices as affordable as possible, to achieve this we use every part of the animals we grow; this is where our story starts.  With the price of wool being at an all time low and shipping and fuel costs being so high, selling our wool to the co-op or shipping it to the mill was no longer feasible. There was no better time to find a solution that not only helps sheep farmers but the environment too. My Grandma has been talking about the benefits of using wool in the gardens and in the bottom of potted plants for as long as I can remember but working large chunks of fleece into the ground is difficult and quite messy. Then I heard about wool pellets, tiny bits of pelletized fleece that build your soil, fertilize your plants and reduce water use; my mind was set and Vancouver Island Wool Pellets was born.

How it works

  • Wool pellets slowly break down in the soil releasing nutrients for up to 6 months, fertilizing your garden all season long.
  • High in nitrogen and carbon but also contains calcium, magnesium, iron, sulfur and other various micronutrients.
  • Wool has an average NPK value of 9-0-2

Saves water

  • Wool is very absorbent and will hold up to 20x its weight in water, significantly reducing the amount of time you need to spend at the end of a garden hose!
  • Wool pellets expand when wet, naturally aerating your soil and increasing oxygen levels.
